Elaheh Momeni-Ortner was visiting the group of Prof. Kristina Lerman at the Information Science Institute (ISI) of the University of Southern California (USC). During the visit, she and the team were investigating a new approach for predicting dynamics of trending topics leveraging real-time streams from online media. More precisely, accurate prediction of event dynamics are influenced by temporal causalities of other topics and events. This means for predicting dynamics of an event besides considering temporal evolution of the event, it is important to identify and consider cause topics and events which effect changes of evolution of the event under the study. Considering these requirements, the collaborative work during the research visit deals with development of a framework for predicting dynamics of domain-related events, leveraging deep neural networks and fact signals from online media.
